On Monday (January 8), theatre producer Orin Wolf confirmed the 1984 rock musical film is being adapted for the Broadway stage. The project will be helmed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, who recently directed the acclaimed show,\u00a0<em>The Skin of Our Teet<\/em>h.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been almost 40 years since Prince\u2019s legendary film,\u00a0<em>Purple Rain<\/em>, took the world by storm and we can\u2019t think of a more fitting tribute than to honor Prince and the\u00a0<em>Purple Rain<\/em>\u00a0legacy with this stage adaptation of the beloved story,\u201d L. It\u2019s set to feature a number of classic Prince tracks, including \u201cWhen Doves Cry,\u201d \u201cLet\u2019s Go Crazy\u201d and \u201cI Would Die 4 U\u201d as well as the titular song, \u201cPurple Rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The music icon\u2019s film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and made around $70 million at the box office when it was first released. Prince, real name Prince Rogers Nelson, died of an accidental fentanyl overdose in 2016.
