The trio of Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel and Lauryn Hill are supposedly in the studio cooking up their first project since their seven times platinum smashThe Score, according to a story from The New York Post that ran on Friday (June 28).

The news was shared with the newspaper by an anonymous inside source.

The Post also mentioned that Wyclef teased a potential new album back in November, noting that, as he put it in an old song: “Anything can happen.”

It was earlier this week that Lauryn Hill announced she would be bringing her son YG Marley along for her tour with The Fugees.

The New Jersey legend announced the ‘The Celebration Continues Tour’ in an Instagram post, which will extend last year’s 25-year anniversary celebration of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Set to kick off on August 9 in Tampa, Florida, the 22-date trek will make its way through the United States before heading to Europe in October, where it will conclude in Amsterdam.

Attendees at this year’s Coachella festival got a sample of what Hill’s forthcoming tour will feel like, as she surprised the crowd at the first weekend when she popped into YG Marley’s set and brought Wyclef Jean out as well.

Roughly 15 minutes into the Marley heir’s set, his mother joined in and ran through a number of her solo hits before performing some Fugees hits with Clef.

“Ex-Factor,” “Lost Ones,” “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La” all made it to the setlist, with YG filling in for Pras‘ parts on “Ready or Not.” Later in the set, they also brought out Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star.

On Wednesday (March 20), the organization announced that The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998) and 3 Feet High and Rising (1989) will be inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2024 alongside classics by Donna Summer, Wanda Jackson and more.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Novo Theater in Los Angeles, CA on May 21.

“We’re proud to unveil the diverse mix of recordings entering the Grammy Hall Of Fame in its 50th year,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. shared.

“The music showcased here has played a pivotal role in shaping our cultural landscape, and it’s a true honor to recognize these albums and recordings, along with the profound influence each has had on music and beyond.”

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 tally upon its release and went on to win five Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Album.

3 Feet High and Rising, on the other hand, didn’t receive the same amount of commercial shine when it first dropped but has since been credited for giving art rap and progressive Hip Hop a boost like no other body of work before it. In 2010, the Library of Congress added the LP to the National Recording Registry on the basis of it being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

In related news, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Eric B & Rakim are among this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees.

The full list of artists nominated this year, which totals 15, was announced last month on the organization’s website and across its social channels. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B & Rakim having all been nominated previously and returning to ballot once again.

Wyclef Jean Brings Out Lauryn Hill At Essence Fest To Perform Several Fugees Classics

Wyclef Jean Brings Out Lauryn Hill At Essence Fest To Perform Several Fugees Classics

New Orleans, LA – Wyclef Jean was among the many performers at the 2022 Essence Fest in New Orleans on Friday night (July 1). During his set, Wyclef brought out his fellow Fugee Lauryn Hill much to the surprise of the audience.

The two longtime collaborators did a live rendition of “Killing Me Softly” from the group’s critically acclaimed sophomore album The Score as well as “Ready Or Not,” “How Many Mics” and “Fu-Gee-La.” Prior to the performance, HipHopDX spoke to Wyclef who ensured his fans his Essence Fest appearance would be “historical” — and he delivered.

The performance comes six months after the Fugees canceled The Scores‘s 25th anniversary reunion tour due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen,” the group explained at the time. “The continued Covid pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe. An idea sparked to honor and celebrate this 25th anniversary of The Score, but we see now it may not currently be our time for revisiting this past work.”

The fact Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras were able to come together for a show in New York City prior to the cancelation was a miracle in itself. Shortly after The Score was release, the trio had a terrible falling out and it looked like they’d never share a stage again. Wyclef and Hill admittedly had an affair while he was married to designer Marie Claudinette. According to Wyclef’s autobiography Purpose, Hill also lied about the paternity of her son Zion and led him to think the child was his, when it reality the baby belonged to Bob Marley’s son Rohan.
