OutKast Fan Recreates ‘ATLiens’ Beat & Gets Surprise From Killer Mike: ‘Day Made’

OutKast Fan Recreates ‘ATLiens’ Beat & Gets Surprise From Killer Mike: ‘Day Made'

An OutKast fan was inspired to recreate one of the group’s classic tracks and share it, only to find Killer Mike did the same, accompanied by someone special.

On Tuesday (May 16), Menace, a Dallas DJ, uploaded a clip to his perspective social media pages showing him recreating the beat for OutKast’s “ATLiens.” The clip immediately sparked excitement and nostalgia among fans.

However, this wasn’t what caught the DJ’s attention, it was a message from Killer Mike, who contacted Menace and expressed his love of the rework. Additionally, he mentioned that he had shared it with Big Boi of OutKast.

“How fun is my life? Earlier today I made a video recreating the “Atliens” beat with the original sample. Hours later I get a text from Killer Mike as he’s watching the video with fucking BIG BOI in the studio!!!! Ha! Day made,” he wrote on Twitter.

“ATLiens” was the second single from the duo’s classic album of the same name, which was released in August 1996. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold nearly 350,000 copies in the first few weeks of release.

OutKast — comprised of André “3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton — exploded onto the scene in the early ’90s with their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, not only making them commercially successful, but driving Southern Hip Hop into the mainstream.

Many people, including Joe Budden, agree that the duo is among the best in Hip Hop history. During his appearance on Drink Champs in March, the rapper crowned OutKast the greatest rap group of all time when asked to pick between Mobb Deep or OutKast.

“OutKast is the greatest group of all time but I’m from New York,” Budden said. “I’m from New York, I mean but OutKast is better than Mob Deep. I’m not gonna be on camera saying otherwise. But Queens, Mobb Deep rest in peace Prodigy.”

Mack 10 Reveals He & Ice Cube Haven’t Spoken In Almost 20 Years

Mack 10 Reveals He & Ice Cube Haven't Spoken In Almost 20 Years

Mack 10 has revealed he hasn’t seen or spoken to Ice Cube in almost two decades since their falling-out.

Source: HipHopDX

The West Coast rap veteran was asked about his long-running rift with Cube in an interview with Bootleg Kev, admitting their relationship has remained frosty since they parted ways back in the mid 2000s.

“I fuck with who fuck with me, you dig? That’s where I’m at with it. If you fuck with me, I fuck with you. But if it’s fuck me, it’s fuck you,” Mack said.

“I ain’t seen him or talked to him in damn near 20 years, so there it is.”

Their bad blood has even deterred Mack from listening to Cube’s Mount Westmore album with Snoop Dogg, Too $hort and E-40, which dropped in December.

“I’ve heard bits and pieces of it, but not really,” he replied when asked if he’s heard the West Coast supergroup’s debut project. “Westside Connection was a movement. It was a little different.”

Mack 10 and Ice Cube joined forces alongside WC in the mid 1990s to form the supergroup Westside Connection, who released their critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut album Bow Down in ’96.

The California trio regrouped in 2003 for their second and final project Terrorist Threats, before Mack quit the group just a few years later after a falling-out with Cube.

In an interview with VladTV in 2020, Mack confirmed his departure stemmed from him getting into an altercation with Cube’s brother-in-law, who he alluded to “fuck[ing] my money up.”

“It was just an unfortunate situation, as far as what came out of all that,” he said. “It ain’t like that just happened … I went to Cube about four or five times before the conflict jumped off and told him to correct the situation. That’s the part that everybody leaves out.”

He added: “If it was my wife’s brother, I would’ve told him he can’t fuck my money up and he can’t be out of line with nobody I’m getting down with. And if you got that big of a problem with him, stay at home. My wife’s brother wouldn’t have stopped shit for me, with him.”

Mack clarified that his and Cube’s disagreement didn’t escalate beyond a verbal argument, saying: “Me and Cube didn’t have no fight or nothing like that. We had an argument, but okay, I thought that was it.”

Chuck D & KRS-One Respond To Bow Wow’s ‘Hip Hop Needs A Board’ Comments

Chuck D & KRS-One Respond To Bow Wow's 'Hip Hop Needs A Board' Comments

Chuck D and KRS-One have responded to Bow Wow’s comments about Hip Hop needing a “board,” extending an invite for him to join a discussion about the topic.

Chuck D and KRS-One have responded to Bow Wow’s comments about Hip Hop needing a “board,” extending an invite for him to join a discussion about the topic.

Shad Moss sparked a debate among rap fans earlier this month when he fired off a tweet calling for Hip Hop to unionize in order to govern the culture and take care of its aging stars.

“Hip hop needs a board!” he wrote. “No different than the NBA w/ the players association. A committee. That can set rules and keep things in control and protect this thing we call hip hop! And have a retirement plan for the og rappers. I hate seeing my heros liquor’d out no money just washed.”

Chuck D, KRS-One, Kurtis Blow and Doug E. Fresh teamed up to establish the Hip Hop Alliance in July 2022 to address and represent the needs of the culture. Now, they’ve released a joint statement addressing Bow Wow’s comments.

“Like every other aspect of society’s workforce, the artists and creators of Hip Hop need protection, support and advocacy,” read the statement, per Rock The Bells. “From label disputes to intellectual property retrieval and the need for an overall governing body, the Hip Hop Alliance was established.

“Recent comments this weekend created a unique opportunity to bring forth a conversation that many in Hip Hop & R&B have been addressing for a long time. The need of a governing body of Hip Hop. The goal of HHA is to empower artists to make informed decisions about their career and ensure that their rights are respected and protected.”

The Hip Hop Alliance also extended an invitation to Bow Wow to join a conversation on Clubhouse on Friday (January 20) at 7 p.m. EST so he can become better acquainted with the organization’s efforts and goals. The former child star also received an invitation to HHA’s Black History Month online conference on February 25.

“As our culture comes together to honor and celebrate the 50th year of the creation of Hip Hop, now is the time for all of us to come together,” the statement continued. “In that spirit, we invite our brother Bow Wow to join us this coming Friday (January 20) at 7 p.m. EST on the Clubhouse app and/or our Black History Month online conference on Tuesday (February 25) at 4 p.m. EST on the HHA YouTube page.

“In fact, all of the Hip Hop community is invited to these two informative conversations about the HHA, as we continue to build this organization to advocate, inform and service our brothers and sisters’ needs and concerns throughout the Hip Hop ecosystem. We welcome all of the Hip Hop culture to roll up their sleeves and join us, as we work to uplift, honor, and protect Hip Hop, for its past, present, and future.”

According to its website, the Hip Hop Alliance is a “strategic partnership that represents the needs and concerns of the Hip Hop and R&B workforce through advocacy, information, and service.”

Kendrick Lamar Claims Spotify’s Most Streamed Rap Album Of 2022

Kendrick Lamar Claims Spotify’s Most Streamed Rap Album Of 2022

Kendrick Lamar Claims Spotify’s Most Streamed Rap Album Of 2022

Source: HipHopDX

Kendrick Lamar wears many crowns and his comeback album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers has taken home the trophy for Spotify’s most streamed rap album of 2022.

According to Chart Data, the former TDE rapper’s latest effort earned the top spot in the rap category with 1.4 billion streams on Spotify.

Not far behind was NAV’s Demons Protected by Angels, Jack Harlow’s Come Home The Kids Miss You, Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss and Future’s I NEVER LIKED YOU to reportedly round out the Top 5.

Chart Data confirmed to HipHopDX that the streams are “not guaranteed 2022 streams.” The rankings include lifetime streams for projects with a 2022 release date. Therefore, although Nav’s “Lemonade” collaboration with Internet Money, Gunna and Don Toliver was released as a single in 2020, because it features on Nav’s 2022 album Demons Protected by Angels, all of its streams since its original release count towards its final total.

Back in August, Kendrick’s Big Steppers album became the first rap project to cross the billion stream mark; so him lifting up the championship belt at the end of 2022 doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

K. Dot’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers arrived in May to end the Compton rapper’s drought as fans welcomed his first solo LP in five years. He ended up earning the seventh most first-week sales in 2022, notching just shy of 300,000 with a first week of 296,000 units.

Mariah Carey Becomes First Female Artist With Three Songs To Spend 11 Weeks At No. 1

Mariah Carey Becomes First Female Artist With Three Songs To Spend 11 Weeks At No. 1

Mimi joins Boyz II Men as the only acts to reach that milestone.

Source: AllHipHop

Many music fans view Mariah Carey as the present queen of Christmas music. The Pop/R&B icon’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” remains one of the most-played songs every year during the holiday season.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has also returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart every December for the past four years. Mariah Carey’s classic tune held the top spot for three weeks in 2022.

In total, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” controlled the Hot 100 rankings for 11 weeks. That stat makes Mariah Carey the first female artist in history to lead the Hot 100 for at least 11 weeks with three different songs.

Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men Ruled The Hot 100 In The 1990s

Philadelphia-bred R&B group Boyz II Men also has three songs that have remained at #1 for 11 weeks. The Michael Bivins-backed quartet’s “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey commanded the Hot 100 for 16 weeks in 1995-1996.

In addition to the “One Sweet Day” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singles, Carey’s “We Belong Together” dominated the Hot 100 for 14 weeks in 2005. Boyz II Men also surpassed the 11-week mark with 1992’s “End of the Road” (13 weeks) and 1994’s “I’ll Make Love to You” (14 weeks).

According to Billboard, twenty-eight different songs have held onto the Hot 100’s #1 slot for at least 11 total weeks. 2019’s “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus holds the all-time record (19 weeks).

“One Sweet Day” is tied for second place with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber. Former One Direction boy band member Harry Styles sits in third with his “As It Was” single (15 weeks). That Harry’s House track is the longest-running Number One for 2022.

Mimi Holds Additional Billboard Hot 100 Records

Mariah Carey has the most overall #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a solo act. The five-time Grammy winner reached the pinnacle of the chart with 19 different entries. That total is only second to The Beatles (20).

Al B. Sure! has been struggling with health issues for months but continues to update fans on his progress via social media. On Saturday (December 17), the R&B legend shared an Instagram video to his account and revealed the hole in his neck from a tracheotomy had closed.

“That moment when I get home and look into the mirror for the 1st time minus the bandages to discover that the massive hole in my neck from the #tracheostomy has completely closed,” he wrote. “Finally. Not too long ago I can remember simply attempting to speak and only the sound of ‘gurgling air pockets’ would come through! Dr. @djeddief for the save!”

Although noticeably gaunt, Al B. Sure! has come a long way since May when news of his hospitalization first started to spread. During a recent appearance on Fox 5 New York, his first television interview since the whole ordeal began, Al B. Sure! talked about the two-month coma that had him fighting for his life.

“I feel amazing,” he said. “I feel fantastic. But within amazing and fantastic, it has its challenges because I’m also healing physically. There’s a time period when you really have to heal.
