Drake’s ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ Album Makes Apple Music History – One Hour After Its Release

Drake’s ability to smash music industry records is unparalleled. With every release, the Toronto-bred megastar collects streams like a cistern collects rainwater. And his latest release has proven to be no different. Just one hour after Drake delivered his surprise album Honestly, Nevermind on Friday (June 17), he smashed another record.

According to a press release, Honestly, Nevermind became the biggest dance album in Apple Music history breaking the record for first-day streams worldwide. Drake currently holds the record for the biggest album in Apple Music history by first-day streams worldwide with 2021’s Certified Lover Boy, while 2018’s Scorpion is the second biggest album by first-day streams worldwide. Drake also holds the record for the biggest song in Apple Music history by first-day streams worldwide, with “Girls Want Girls.”

Reviews on the album have been mixed. During an episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God compared it to elevator music.

“I don’t mind the vibes you know the vibes to me are the vibes you hear when you’re at a Beverley Hills luxury hotel,” Charlamagne explained. “This is lobby, elevator music. This is the vibes when you sitting in the lobby of the SLS hotel having some drinks on a leather couch with the lights dimly lit. You got a suit on, no tie, first couple of buttons on your shirt open, some slippers on, loafers no socks. I’m never going to revisit this.”

Rolling Stone’s Top 200 List Of Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Cause Confusion

Source: TheSource

On June 7, Rolling Stone released its ranking of the 200 Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time and many fans oppose the list.

Since Hip-Hop is such a broad genre, the popular entertainment news publication limited the list to English language hip-hop only. They also said in cases of repeated albums from legendary catalogs such as OutKast or A Tribe Called Quest, we tended to go with the latter option.

Although many fans disagree with the order and the selections of the albums, Rolling Stone did attempt to cover the entire evolution of the hip-hop genre. The committee selected projects from the early stages of rap such as albums from Public Enemy, De La Soul, Eric B. and Rakim. It also captures records from the ’90s and ‘2000s with acts like Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. The list also mentions tons of new era acts Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Polo G, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, and more.

The rainy weather didn’t keep Brooklyn and the rest of the New York from showing up and showing out for the exclusive, black-tie Notorious B.I.G. 50th Birthday Gala. Last weekend, the city’s biggest influencers and tastemakers were all on hand the bring in what would’ve been Biggie’s 50th born day(May 21). Sponsored by Pepsi and put on by the Christopher Wallace Estate, Manhattan’s Guastavino’s was the locale of the prestigious bday bash for the game’s most celebrated emcee, which drew celebs from all facets of urban entertainment.

B.I.G.’s real friends, family and diehard supporters were in attendance for this second annual event. Everyone impactful in his career was in attendance; from his original Brooklyn family/crew, Lil’ Kim , Lil Cease and Junior M.A.F.I.A., to his extended family in the Hip Hop community, including Fat Joe and Sway Calloway, who conducted Biggie’s last radio interview just four days before he was killed in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.

The night began with an exclusive full course dinner while a live band called The Frank White Experience played some of Biggie’s most revered hits, which preceded some of his “Notorious” hits being played in digital format by none other than HOT 97’s DJ Enuff for the capacity crowd to enjoy. A large ice sculpture with the letters “B.I.G.”graced the stairs to the entrance of the upper level gala, where many of the attendees took their “I was there” pics.
