Birdman and Mannie Fresh joined all four members of the Hot Boys — Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Turk and B.G. — on stage for a highly anticipated reunion at Lil Weezyana Fest.
Lil Wayne’s annual festival took place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA on Saturday (November 2).
The group appeared as a full four piece for the first time since 2000, and performed “Get Your Roll On,” “I Need a Hot Girl” and “Neighborhood Superstar,” in addition to versions of their solo material.
During the show, Cash Money founder Birdman and legendary producer Mannie Fresh joined for the performance of “I Need a Hot Girl,” which you can check out below.
Though Weezy and his team took over the New Orleans arena for the festival, the rap superstar won’t be performing at the city’s biggest upcoming event, Super Bowl LIX.
Kendrick Lamar was recently announced as the musical act for Super Bowl LIX, but the decision proved to be polarizing, with even Wayne himself expressing disappointment over it.
LL Cool J even offered Wayne some words of wisdom after he was left devastated by not being selected for the show.
Sitting down for an interview with Fat Joe for his new talk show on STARZ, LL attempted to uplift Weezy’s spirits while gently reminding him that this is Kendrick’s moment.
“Lil Wayne is one of the most talented dudes on the planet, period. He’s one of our great artists, he’s an unbelievable writer,” he said. “He’ll have his day — let Kendrick get that. Let’s keep it moving. I never did the Super Bowl!”
The trio of Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel and Lauryn Hill are supposedly in the studio cooking up their first project since their seven times platinum smashThe Score, according to a story from The New York Post that ran on Friday (June 28).
The news was shared with the newspaper by an anonymous inside source.
The Post also mentioned that Wyclef teased a potential new album back in November, noting that, as he put it in an old song: “Anything can happen.”
It was earlier this week that Lauryn Hill announced she would be bringing her son YG Marley along for her tour with The Fugees.
The New Jersey legend announced the ‘The Celebration Continues Tour’ in an Instagram post, which will extend last year’s 25-year anniversary celebration of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Set to kick off on August 9 in Tampa, Florida, the 22-date trek will make its way through the United States before heading to Europe in October, where it will conclude in Amsterdam.
Attendees at this year’s Coachella festival got a sample of what Hill’s forthcoming tour will feel like, as she surprised the crowd at the first weekend when she popped into YG Marley’s set and brought Wyclef Jean out as well.
Roughly 15 minutes into the Marley heir’s set, his mother joined in and ran through a number of her solo hits before performing some Fugees hits with Clef.
“Ex-Factor,” “Lost Ones,” “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La” all made it to the setlist, with YG filling in for Pras‘ parts on “Ready or Not.” Later in the set, they also brought out Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star.
A documentary about The Notorious B.I.G. will be dropping soon via Time Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is currently producing “an intimate look at the untold life story of one of the greatest rappers to ever live … from the perspective of the son who never knew him.”
His son, Christopher Wallace, Jr., was only five months old when his father was murdered on March 9, 1997. Time Studios revealed the documentary delves into a dual narrative that spans the lives of both Christopher Jr. and Sr. from the 1980s to the present day. Directing the film is Vikram Gandhi, renowned for his work on projects such as “Barry,” “69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez” and “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike.”
It explores profound themes such as identity, legacy and fatherhood. As Christopher Jr. embarks on a personal quest to unravel his own destiny, his journey uncovers a comprehensive and previously unseen depiction of his father.
“Over the past few years, I realized my personal journey is connected to understanding who Christopher George Latore Wallace was outside of his big rap persona,” C.J. Wallace said. “I am on a journey to fully understand the world he lived in and the massive impact he had on American and Black history and by doing so, I can ensure that I honor his hopes and dreams while I build and create my own legacy for future generations of Wallaces.”

Industry Blackout has released a statement to XXL in the wake of virtual AI rapper FN Meka being dropped from Capitol Records. The organization sent an open letter to the label earlier today, calling for the artist and label to terminate its partnership.
“We feel it it is a great victory that Capitol Records terminated their contract with FN Meka however, the fact this happened to begin with shows how much work is still ahead of us,” the statement starts. “We’re glad the people amplified our voices to be heard so quickly on a Black issue, and that our action led to results. This should set a precedent that shows how Black and Brown voices can unify behind issues and get things done.
“There was a great opportunity to do something innovative with hip hop and tech. Tech should be used to amplify the culture And there’s still a chance to do so—the right way. At the end of the day, we’ve been about the people since inception and continue to focus on our community. At every turn we will stand up when needed.”
ORIGINAL STORY (Aug. 23):
Grand opening. Grand closing. Just days after news broke that AI-powered virtual rapper FN Meka had signed a deal with Capitol Records, the label announced it has dropped the ’bot following backlash.
On Tuesday (Aug. 23), a rep for Capitol Records released a statement to XXL confirming its decision to part ways with the “rapper.”
“CMG has severed ties with the FN Meka project, effectively immediately,” the statement reads. “We offer our deepest apologies to the Black community for our insensitivity in signing this project without asking enough question about equity and the creative process behind it. We thank those who have reached out to us with constructive feedback in the past couple of days—your input was invaluable as we came to the decision to end our associate with the project.”
The opposition to FN Meka apparently received a strong push from @industryblkout, a “unified body of Black people in the industry committed to changing the community” on Twitter, who published a hard stance statement against Capitol Records and the Meka project on Tuesday calling it an “abomination and disrespectful to real people who face real consequences in real life.”
XXL has reached out to Industry Blackout for comment.

The announcement arrives after backlash the label received from recently signing the virtual rapper to a recording contract. FN Meka is the creation of Anthony Martini and Brandon Le, cofounders of Factory New, a virtual record label who were the first to ink the virtual rhymer to a deal. FN Meka’s voice is based off a real human, but everything else about the rapper including his rhymes are based off artificial intelligence technology, according to its creators. In appearance, Meka looks like to a caricature of a racially ambiguous Soundcloud rapper, complete with colored dreads and face tats. Meka even has a new single with Gunna titled “Florida Water.”
However, the Meka “project” has received backlash. For one, Meka uses the N-word in lyrics. On the 2019 track “Moonwalkin’,” he spits the lines, “Moonwalkin’ with a shawty in the lobby/Feel like Hank Hill when I raise the Bobby (Bobby)/I don’t see no niggas like we playin’ hockey (Hockey).”

Wiz Khalifa and Logic are going on tour together. As the latter gets ready to drop his album Vinyl Days, the Maryland rapper will be taking the Taylor Gang CEO on the road with him in support of the new project.
The Vinyl Verse Summer Tour will kick off on July 27 in Irvine, California and the FivePoint Amphitheatre and will end on September 2 at the Hollywood Casio Amphitheatre in St. Louis, Missouri. Logic will also be be bringing along 24kGoldn, DJ Drama, Fedd The God and C Dot Castro for the joint venture, with Berner and Rubi Rose also scheduled to perform on select dates.
Logic’s Vinyl Days drops June 17 and will serve as his seventh and final album on Def Jam. The “Young Sinatra” MC dropped off the singles “Bleed It,” “Therapy Music” with Russ, and “Orville” with Blue & Exile and Like of Pac Div in support of the project, but blamed his label for “fucking up” the rollout.
“Def Jam, why you fucking up my releases, man?” he said in a video. “First of all, I love you Tunji. Tunji’s my guy, he ain’t got nothing to do with this. What the fuck is going on, man? I told Def Jam that I wanted to release my shit as a two-pack and I just found out that they’re releasing it as two singles at the same time.”
