Mac Miller’s Posthumous Album “Balloonerism” Drops To Rave Reviews

Mac Miller’s Posthumous Album “Balloonerism” Drops To Rave Reviews

Mac Miller’s second posthumous album, Balloonerism, has arrived alongside a short film more than six years after the rapper’s untimely passing.

Source: AllHipHop

Recorded between 2013 and 2014, the 14-track project, released Friday (January 16), follows 2020’s Circles.

SZA, who features on “DJ’s Chord Organ,” took to social media shortly after Balloonerism dropped to pay tribute to Mac Miller.

“I love my friend I miss my friend,” she wrote. “Grateful he saw something in me before most and treated me w love from day 1 . Wish he could see how right ab everything he truly was . Please go stream Balloonerism RIGHT NOW.”

The album dropped alongside an animated short film directed by Samuel Jerome Mason. The film was screened at selected cinemas before the project’s release and is also available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Mac Miller’s estate announced Balloonerism last November. They note the album is, a “project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately ‘GO:OD AM’ [2015] and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.”

They continued: “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”

Balloonerism is already receiving rave reviews on social media and began trending No.1 on X (Twitter) shortly after it dropped. Stream the album below and check out some of the reactions at the end of the page.

Lil Wayne Reveals He Spoke To Kendrick Lamar, Addresses Rumored Super Bowl Appearance

Lil Wayne Reveals He Spoke To Kendrick Lamar, Addresses Rumored Super Bowl Appearance

Lil Wayne is opening up about a recent conversation with Kendrick Lamar about the upcoming 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show and his reaction to K. Dot referencing him on “wacced out murals.”

Source: AllHipHop

During a new interview with Skip Bayless aired Monday evening (December 16), the New Orleans native revealed he shared some words of encouragement with Lamar and said the pair are “cool.”

While Lil Wayne admitted he isn’t over it yet, he has embraced the decision and moved on.

“I wanna get to the point where I’m undeniable,” Wayne explained. “I want them to walk in there and have 10 other choices and whoever’s in charge says ‘No, you have to go with him.’”

Lil Wayne also revealed he hadn’t heard Kendrick Lamar’s “wacced out murals.”

The Young Money founder previously reacted to the track hours after Lamar’s GNX dropped.

“Man wtf I do?!” he tweeted. “Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”

On the track, Dot raps, “I used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”

“I think he’s a fan, like I’m a fan of his music,” Wayne stated, adding, “He saw with everybody else. He saw how much it meant to me, I think that’s all he means.”

He also said Lamar never “let me down,” acknowledging it wasn’t the Compton MC’s decision.

Wayne continued: “There was no explanation that was needed for that. I think I understand. His hard work is the reason why he made it there, and obviously that part about letting me down is me just being upset and disappointed about not getting the spot.”

Nonetheless, Lil Wayne says he and Lamar have spoken about the Super Bowl, adding, “I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it.”

While there were rumors of a surprise appearance at the Halftime Show, Lil Wayne squashed any speculation. “I’m not gonna even be in the country,” he said.

Reincarnated: The ‘Scary’ 2Pac Vision That Continues To Inspire Kendrick Lamar

Reincarnated: The 'Scary' 2Pac Vision That Continues To Inspire Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX not only shines a spotlight on Los Angeles’ current crop of rising rappers such as AzChike, Hitta J3 and Lefty Gunplay, but contains an overt tribute to one of the city’s most famous adopted sons, Tupac Shakur.

Source: HipHopDX

As an ‘80s baby who grew up in L.A. — specifically Compton — during 2Pac’s prime and even witnessed the rap legend film scenes for his original “California Love” music video with Dr. Dre at the Compton Swap Meet as a kid, his love of ‘Pac is no surprise.

But for Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, it goes deeper than that. In the early hours of September 13, 2010 — exactly 14 years after 2Pac’s death — the then-up-and-coming lyricist had an eerie dream in which Shakur came to him and delivered a message that would have a profound impact on him.

“I was coming from a late studio session, sleeping on mom’s couch. I’m 26 now — it wasn’t that long ago,” he recalled in a 2013 interview with GQ. “I remember being tired, tripping from the studio, lying down, and falling into a deep sleep and seeing a vision of ‘Pac talking to me.

“Weirdest shit ever. I’m not huge on superstition and all that shit. That’s what made it so crazy. It can make you go nuts. Hearing somebody that you looked up to for years saying, ‘Don’t let the music die.’ Hearing it clear as day. Clear as day. Like, he’s right there. Just a silhouette.”

Explaining how the spiritual encounter influenced his approach to music, he added: “It wasn’t just about money, hos, clothes, drinking. I mean, I come from that world, but at the same time, I started to realize that there’s people out there that can’t really connect to that lifestyle. They’re in the struggle.”

Kendrick noted in a separate interview with Home Grown Radio that just a day before the “scary” vision, his mother pointed out to him that his and ‘Pac’s birthdays are just one day apart. “I never knew that shit,” he said. “That was some wild shit.”

Birdman & Mannie Fresh Join Hot Boys On Stage For Lil Weezyana Fest Reunion

Birdman & Mannie Fresh Join Hot Boys On Stage For Lil Weezyana Fest Reunion

Birdman and Mannie Fresh joined all four members of the Hot Boys — Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Turk and B.G. — on stage for a highly anticipated reunion at Lil Weezyana Fest.

Lil Wayne’s annual festival took place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA on Saturday (November 2).

The group appeared as a full four piece for the first time since 2000, and performed “Get Your Roll On,” “I Need a Hot Girl” and “Neighborhood Superstar,” in addition to versions of their solo material.

During the show, Cash Money founder Birdman and legendary producer Mannie Fresh joined for the performance of “I Need a Hot Girl,” which you can check out below.

Though Weezy and his team took over the New Orleans arena for the festival, the rap superstar won’t be performing at the city’s biggest upcoming event, Super Bowl LIX.

Kendrick Lamar was recently announced as the musical act for Super Bowl LIX, but the decision proved to be polarizing, with even Wayne himself expressing disappointment over it.

LL Cool J even offered Wayne some words of wisdom after he was left devastated by not being selected for the show.

Sitting down for an interview with Fat Joe for his new talk show on STARZ, LL attempted to uplift Weezy’s spirits while gently reminding him that this is Kendrick’s moment.

“Lil Wayne is one of the most talented dudes on the planet, period. He’s one of our great artists, he’s an unbelievable writer,” he said. “He’ll have his day — let Kendrick get that. Let’s keep it moving. I never did the Super Bowl!”

Scarface, Paul Wall & Slim Thug Rep Houston Hard In Megan Thee Stallion Video

Scarface, Paul Wall & Slim Thug Rep Houston Hard In Megan Thee Stallion Video

Houston rap legends Scarface, Paul Wall and Slim Thug are featured in Megan Thee Stallion’s new video for “Bigger in Texas,” her first single from Megan: Act II.

Source: AllHipHop

Co-directed by Megan and Julian Klincewicz, the visual finds her rocking a grill and spitting lyrics like, “E’rrythang bigger in Texas, ain’t no injections, we at the pole, no elections/B####, don’t come around me tryna pass out drugs, ho, I ain’t poppin’ no Teslas.” Celebrity jeweler Johnny Dang, who’s also Paul Wall’s longtime business partner, makes a special cameo.

Megan: Act II features 12 new tracks, including the “Mamushi” remix and “Roc Steady” featuring Flo Milli.

Paul Wall rose to notoriety in the mid-2000s as a key figure in the Houston rap scene, known for his distinct Southern style, drawl, and contributions to the “chopped and screwed” sub-genre of rap popularized in H-Town. Some of his biggest tracks include “Sittin’ Sidewayz” featuring Big Pokey, “They Don’t Know” with Mike Jones and “Grillz” with Nelly, which earned a Grammy nomination.

Scarface, meanwhile, is best known as a member of the Geto Boys, who brought raw, street-level storytelling and dark themes to Hip-Hop in the late ’80s and ’90s. Known for his gritty lyricism, deep voice and emotional storytelling, Scarface helped make the Geto Boys famous with hits like “Mind Playing Tricks on Me.” As a solo artist, Scarface dropped several albums, including Mr. Scarface Is Back (1991), The Diary (1994) and The Fix (2002).

Slim Thug got his start in the early 2000s, initially through independent mixtapes and collaborations with other Houston rappers like Mike Jones and Paul Wall. His mainstream breakthrough came with his verse on Jones’ hit single “Still Tippin’” in 2004, which helped bring Houston rap to a national audience.

2 Chainz Films Surreal Encounter With $20K Tesla Robot: ‘The Future Is Here!’

2 Chainz Films Surreal Encounter With $20K Tesla Robot: 'The Future Is Here!'

2 Chainz has gotten up close and personal with what some are calling “the future” after meeting a Tesla robot in the, um, flesh.

Source: HipHopDX

The Atlanta rap veteran posted a video on Instagram capturing his encounter with Optimus, the new humanoid robot that was unveiled by Elon Musk on Thursday (October 10).

In the clip, Tity Boi can be heard having a full conversation with the robot, asking it: “Hey buddy! How you doing, man? It’s nice to meet you?”

The robot replies: “It’s nice to meet you,” before introducing itself as Optimus.

2 Chainz, who seemingly stuns the robot for a few seconds by introducing himself as “Toni,” then tries to get to know the Tesla invention a little better by asking if it can “play basketball” and “shoot jumpshots.”

“Hmmm. Maybe one day. Can you?” it replies, to which the rapper says: “I’ll teach you.”

2 Chainz then asks Optimus if it likes Balenciaga and offers it some clothing from the luxury fashion house, although the robot somewhat generically replies: “Awesome! That’s cool.”

Before parting ways, the former Playaz Circle MC promises to buy his own Optimus, adding: “I’ll see you in another couple months.”

Travis Scott Eclipses Kanye West, Closes In On Eminem On Most Streamed Rappers List

Travis Scott Eclipses Kanye West, Closes In On Eminem On Most Streamed Rappers List

Travis Scott has surpassed Kanye West on the list of most streamed rappers in the world and is quickly approaching Eminem‘s spot in the top three.

Source: HipHopDX

As reported by Instagram blog RapTV on Wednesday (September 18) and confirmed by Kworb, Travis is now the third most-streamed rapper on Spotify with a whopping 49 billion streams.

He comes in just behind Em at No. 2 with 51 billion streams, but both are still a ways behind the most-streamed rapper in the world, Drake, with 103 billion. Ye currently sits at No. 4 with 48 billion, while Future rounds out the top five with 40 billion.

A surge in sales from the commercial release of his 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo certainly helped. The effort is set to secure the coveted number one spot on the Billboard 200, four weeks after missing out on the crown in contentious fashion.

The tape narrowly missed out on topping the chart in its first week of release, despite earning over 360,000 equivalent units.

Now it looks set to surge to number one thanks to vinyl copies of the mixtape being shipped out, with Days Before Rodeo on track to move 130,000 equivalent units — including 125,000 in pure sales — in its fourth week, according to HITS Daily Double.

Rich Homie Quan Confirmed Dead At Age 34

Rich Homie Quan Confirmed Dead At Age 34

Rich Homie Quan has died in his hometown of Atlanta at the age of 34.

Source: HipHopDX

According to TMZ, the news was confirmed by the former Think It’s A Game Records artist’s family as well as a representative for the Fulton County morgue after speculation about his passing began circulating on social media on Thursday afternoon (September 5).

While they did not reveal a cause of death, Rich Homie Quan’s family told TMZ they are “shattered and heartbroken by his sudden death.”

Boosie Badazz was the first member of the Hip Hop community to issue a public reaction, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD [double exclamation points emoji] JUST TALK TO WUAN [sic] THE OTHER DAY #gomissun-gga.”

JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD ‼️JUST TALK TO WUAN THE OTHER DAY #gomissunigga

— Boosie BadAzz (@BOOSIEOFFICIAL) September 5, 2024

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Rich Homie Quan first rose to prominence with the release of his 2013 single “Type of Way.” Later that year, he delivered a show-stealing performance on YG‘s “My N-gga,” paving the way for his inclusion as part of XXL‘s 2014 Freshman Class.

He and Young Thug would then join forces as Rich Gang, releasing their mega hit single “Lifestyle” via Cash Money Records in 2014.

While he’s been less active on the music front in recent year, Thug’s YSL RICO case had Quan reflecting his career, particularly his lyrics.

Speaking with Sway’s Universe in 2022, Quan revealed that he had rethought how he writes his lyrics in the wake of his former collaborator’s legal troubles, mostly because he doesn’t want his children to get the wrong idea about their father.

50 Cent may have found a new home following the success of his inaugural four-day-long Humor & Harmony Weekend Festival in Shreveport, La. this past weekend.

Months after 50 Cent announced the launch of G-Unit Studios in Shreveport, La., which will be the presumed home of his G-Unit Film & Television company, the rapper-turned-mogul threw a slew of star-studded events.

XXL was in attendance for the festivities, including a comedy show with an afterparty to follow, an XXL Freshman showcase, a celebrity basketball game, car show and much more. The events were welcomed by the people in the city, who came together to support G-Unity Foundation’s sole mission to promote Conscious Capitalism, an action that resulted in an economic boost, and brought millions of dollars to the city.

Not to mention, Shreveport, La., an area with a very high crime rate, had no reports of violence throughout the weekend, prompting 50 to share on Instagram that he wants to hold the festival again.

Rappers, Comedians, R&B Singers and More Come Together Humor & Harmony Weekend

This past Thursday (Aug. 7), Fif kicked off Humor & Harmony weekend with endless laughs provided by comedians Katt Williams, Andrew Schulz and Michael Blackson, among others. There was even a surprise appearance from Dave Chappelle, who did a set. The following day on Aug. 8 was the XXL Freshman showcase featuring Skilla Baby and ScarLip, and other rising artists. Following the Freshman concert was the celebrity basketball game, with team QC facing off against TDE. Cam’ron provided hilarious play-by-plays of the players.

On the court were a variety of celebs from different spaces, including rappers Master P, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and DaBaby, rapper-turned-podcaster Gille Da Kid, NFL legend Terrell Owens and numerous actors and actresses from 50’s Powerverse and BMF, to name a few.

Last Saturday (Aug. 10), Humor & Harmony Weekend Festival held a car show hosted by 50 and Power 105’s DJ Envy. After the family-friendly daytime event, some of the biggest names in hip-hop, such as Moneybagg Yo, 2 Chainz, French Montana, A Boogie and 50 himself, hit the stage for the 50 Cent and Friends concert. R&B artists Monica, Muni Long and Jeremih were among several singers to perform as well. Things closed out on Sunday (Aug. 11) with an all-white party.
