On Sunday (Jan. 21), Billboard announced the latest top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, which revealed 21 Savage’s new American Dream album sits at the top spot. The Atlanta rapper’s third solo LP moved 133,00 equivalent album units in its first week. This is 21 Savage’s fourth top three solo debut. His freshman offering, Issa Album, debuted at No. 2 in 2017 with 77,000 units. 2018’s I Am > I Was moved 131,000 units on its way to the top spot on the chart. Savage Mode 2 with Metro Boom debuted at No. 1 in 2020. 21 also has another No. 1 album with his Her Loss joint project with Drake. 21 Savage’s latest LP features guest appearances from Doja Cat, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Metro Boomin and more.
Other rappers in the top 10 of this week’s Billboard 200 chart include Drake (For All the Dogs, No. 4) and Nicki Minaj (Pink Friday 2, No. 7), both of which were released in 2023.
21 Savage Preps New Biopic Film
21 Savage is currently prepping the release of his biopic film America Dream: The 21 Savage Story, which was announced earlier this month. The movie will star Childish Gambino and Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin as the rapper at different points in his life. The movie is slated to be released on July 4, 2024.
21 Savage Moves to America
21 Savage, whose government name is Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was born in London, England in 1992. At 7 years old, he, his mother and his siblings relocated to Atlanta where he was raised during his formative years. This is where his American dream begins.
Decides to Pursue a Rap Career
After dabbling with writing rhymes as a teen, 21 Savage realized a career in hip-hop was the lane for him in 2013. In the face of adversity, the Atlanta mainstay turned tragedy into triumph by pursuing his passion as a rapper after being shot six times. His dream certainly became a reality.

According to projections from Hits Daily Double, Minaj is headed for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, with nearly 200,000 total album-equivalent units moved in its opening week. It serves as one of the largest debuts of Minaj’s career. The last time she did similar numbers was in 2014 upon the release of her fan-favorite album, The Pink Print.
PF2 has spent five days at the top spot on Apple Music’s worldwide albums chart and six of the songs from the set, including “Needle” featuring Drake and the J. Cole-assisted “Let Me Calm Down,” appeared on Spotify’s Top Songs Debut chart dated December 8-10.
Minaj has also egged on the hype surrounding the project by promising fans additional versions of PF2 in the coming weeks. In a tweet replying to a fan on Twitter (X), Minaj told the user there will be more than one “deluxe” version of the LP while hinting at yet another surprise guest feature.
“Y’all def getting 3 more don’t get on my nerves,” Minaj wrote in part. “And y’all will only get that final #GagCity complete package with y’all friend y’all been asking for IF & WHEN y’all gag the live chi. As for today & tmrw tho…We will certainly roll out the pink carpet for our visitors.”

On Monday (July 31), the Georgia native joined Way Up With Angela Yee for a chat, during which he discussed the influence of the now defunct trio. While expressing his appreciation for his former group being featured on Billboard‘s “50 Best Rap Groups” list, he also said that they should’ve been ranked higher than No. 11.
“It depend on how people lookin’ at it,” he explained. “If you talkin’ bout culturally change the sound of music, ’cause then we went past Hip Hop and we went to country and all the different genres … I just feel like we could’ve got Top 5.”
Watch the “Red Room” hitmaker discuss Migos at the beginning of the interview below:
Though Offset does believe that his group belonged higher up on the list, he took no issue with his fellow Southern MCs bagging first place, saying: “I agree with OutKast being No. 1.”
In the same spirit, Rakim recently shared that he had no problem with the Atlanta duo being placed six notches above Eric B. & Rakim on the Billboard list.
The rankings were released in late June, causing heated debates within the Hip Hop community. TMZ caught up with The God MC while he was out in New York a few days after the article was published and got his reaction to both being ranked at No. 7 and being behind André 3000 and Big Boi.
“Nah mean, I’m always gonna say I shoulda been higher, but it’s a blessing to be recognized and it’s a good time to be recognized as well,” Rakim said. “It’s not really my place to say who else deserves or not, but OutKast pushed the envelope, a group that a lot of people got love for. So, you know we have to give the flowers to who earns them.”
Filling in the six notches between Eric B. & Rakim and OutKast are Public Enemy at No. 6, Run-D.M.C. at No. 5, A Tribe Called Quest at No. 4, N.W.A at No. 3 and Wu-Tang Clan at No. 2.
The publication said the criteria for its rankings included: body of work/achievements (charted singles/albums, gold/platinum certifications, other awards), cultural impact/influence (how the group’s work fostered the genre’s evolution), longevity (years at the mic), lyrics (storytelling skills) and flow (vocal prowess).
“Our definition of groups includes duos, proper groups and more nebulous collectives. Most notably, inclusion on this list is based on the accomplishments of the group as a unit — not what the individuals may have separately accomplished. We tried to walk the line between what constitutes a group versus a collective or a crew, though at times that was not entirely clear,” the publication explained.
